Why this one

The days, as we would run them

Day one Mahé

Arrive in the Seychelles

the main island

Into Mahé, the largest island, where jungle green peaks fall to turquoise bays. After the flight we keep it easy, a first Creole curry, a sunset at Beau Vallon beach, the warm Indian Ocean at your feet, an early night.

Day two Mahé

Mahé, in a day

peaks and perfect beaches

The tiny capital Victoria and its market, the Morne Seychellois rainforest and a tea plantation in the hills, and the postcard beaches of Anse Intendance and Petite Anse. A Creole lunch of grilled fish and breadfruit, a rum on the sand.

Day three Praslin

Ferry to Praslin

a prehistoric forest

A fast catamaran to Praslin and the UNESCO Vallée de Mai, a primeval palm forest where the famous coco de mer, the largest seed on earth, grows, and the rare black parrot calls. The dream beach of Anse Lazio to finish the day.

Day four Praslin

Praslin & the islands

tortoises and reefs

A boat to Curieuse island and its free roaming giant tortoises, and to the snorkelling reefs around St Pierre and Coco islet, clouds of fish in glass clear water. An afternoon on the secret cove of Anse Georgette. (overnight Praslin)

Day five La Digue

To La Digue

the slow island

A short hop to La Digue, an island with almost no cars, explored by bicycle and ox cart. Anse Source d'Argent, the most photographed beach in the world, all sculpted pink granite and shallow turquoise, and the old L'Union plantation with its tortoises.

Day six La Digue

La Digue, by bike

bicycles and granite

Cycle the island to the wilder beaches of Grand Anse and Petite Anse, snorkel the reef, a vanilla plantation, a Creole lunch under the takamaka trees. The slowest, loveliest pace in the Indian Ocean, and a SeyBrew at sunset. (overnight La Digue)

Day seven La Digue

A last island day

the barefoot finish

A boat to nearby Félicité or the marine park for a final snorkel, or simply a beach to yourself and a book. A last Creole feast of octopus curry and ladob; the Seychelles at its barefoot, unhurried best. (overnight La Digue)

Day eight La Digue → home

Homeward

orevwar

A last island breakfast and a ferry back to Mahé for your flight home. The Seychelles is the Indian Ocean turned up to eleven, granite, turquoise and time, and it sends you home certain you will return.
