Why this one

The days, as we would run them

Day one Bangkok

Arrive in Bangkok

the great churn

Into the glorious chaos of the Thai capital. After the flight we keep it easy, a longtail dinner cruise or a first plate of pad kra pao, an early night before the heat and the temples.

Day two Bangkok

Bangkok, top to bottom

gold, then neon

The Grand Palace and the reclining Buddha of Wat Pho at opening, a longtail through the Thonburi khlongs, a tuk tuk street food crawl through Chinatown, and a rooftop bar to watch the city light up. The whole city in a day.

Day three Khao Sok

South to the rainforest

the oldest forest

Fly south and drive into Khao Sok, a rainforest older than the Amazon. A first jungle walk among strangler figs and gibbon calls, and the night chorus from your lodge, a different planet from this morning.

Day four Khao Sok

Cheow Lan Lake

the floating world

To Cheow Lan Lake, the 'Guilin of Thailand', emerald water under sheer limestone spires, and a raft house bungalow that floats on it. Kayaks, a cave, a swim straight off the deck, and dawn mist you'll never forget.

Day five Koh Yao Noi

To the Andaman Sea

island time begins

Down to the coast and a boat across Phang Nga Bay to Koh Yao Noi, a slow island of rice paddies and rubber trees between Phuket and Krabi, with none of the glamour and all of the view. Hammock, sea, repeat.

Day six Koh Yao Noi

Phang Nga Bay by longtail

sea stacks and lagoons

A private longtail into the bay's forest of limestone towers, James Bond Island, the hidden hongs you paddle into through cave mouths, sea gypsy stilt villages, beaches that appear at low tide and vanish at high.

Day seven Koh Yao Noi

Koh Yao Noi, at its pace

the slow island

Cycle the paddies and fishing kampongs, a Thai cooking class, a snorkel off Koh Hong, or simply a beach to yourself and a book. Sunset over the karst with a cold Singha to close the day.

Day eight Koh Yao Noi

A free island day

one more swim

Yours entirely, a dive trip, a spa morning, a kayak at dawn, or the firm commitment to do absolutely nothing. The last slow day of a trip built around them.

Day nine Koh Yao Noi → home

Homeward

khob khun

A final island breakfast, the boat to Phuket, and your flight home, salt haired and recalibrated, already arguing about which beach was best.
